Legislation that would permanently secure the right of Pennsylvania citizens to hunt, fish and harvest game through a constitutional amendment is moving through the House of Representatives in Harrisburg. Sponsor of House Bill 410, Rep. Matt Baker (R-Bradford &Tioga) said at a time when anti-hunting organizations are continuing to grow more vocal, it is critically important to take action to ensure the right to hunt and fish is preserved for future generations. Rep. Baker said 13 other states currently have these rights included in their constitutions and two other states have the right to fish guaranteed by law. Governor Corbett has announced that impact fee revenues from Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling will be distributed to counties and municipalities across the state earlier than expected. More than $200 million will be allocated to local governments to offset drilling infrastructure costs and fund environmental programs. Rep. Legislation to update Pennsylvania’s Family Caregiver Support Program to bring the state program in line with its federal counterpart has been passed by both the State House and Senate, and now awaits the Governor’s signature. Rep. Matt Baker (R-Bradford & Tioga), who authored House Bill 210, said this update to the program will permit non-family members to be caregivers, allowing dependent individuals to stay in their homes, and help the state to realize significant savings by keeping more people out of nursing facilities.
