Baker Congratulates Mansfield University on Being Selected for AmeriCorps Program
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Matt Baker (R-Bradford/Tioga) today congratulated Mansfield University for being selected PennSERVE: The Governor’s Office of Citizen Service to participate in the AmeriCorps program titled Community Fellows.
“This is a great opportunity for Mansfield students to take an active part in the surrounding community,” said Baker. “I applaud those students who will be participating in the program, and am hopeful that the program inspires them to continue to help their fellow citizens and become involved stewards of our community well beyond their college years.”
The Community Fellows program encourages university students to serve as AmeriCorps members to address a multitude of locally identified needs, with primary emphasis on improving access to college and careers.
“This is an admirable program that helps make the connection between our universities and local communities,” said Baker. “This fostering of good citizenship through the program is to be commended.”
The Community Fellows AmeriCorps program is overseen by the Pennsylvania Campus Compact, located in Harrisburg. Those college students who participate in the program performing community service qualify to receive an education award for tuition expenses or for the re-payment of student loans.
